About Me

Hello. My name is Chris Lemmen. I live in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and I'm a Minimalist. Well, I'm becoming a minimalist anyway. I'm married with 2 kids and that makes it more of a challenge. I tend to jump head first into things that excite me and minimalism is no exception to that. Usually this drives my family crazy. Again, no exception here!

After 46 odd years on this planet I began to notice that I was not as happy in my life as I thought I'd be by this age. Don't get me wrong, my wife and kids are fantastic, but something was just off. I have a nice house, a nice truck, a weekend get away place and lots of toys. But all this "stuff" is beginning to stress me out. I look around at everything ever where in our home and I'm just not happy with it all.

I stumbled across a blog post by.......you know what, I'm not even sure. Ha! That is so me. I just remember reading a minimalism post that told me I could be happier with less. I was confused. How could having less stuff make me happier and less stressed? Isn't the point of life to get a job, get married, buy a house, have a family and fill up your life with the best stuff you can afford or get credit for? That was my understanding of it. That's what we are told anyway.

I read the blog post and it lead me to more posts about being happier with less stuff. Then it clicked for me. All this "stuff" in my life was holding me back. I have to pay to protect it, maintain it, replace it or continue to pay it off thanks to the quick fix known as consumer credit!

I was in. Sign me up, let's throw out all this stuff! Well, I'm not the only one in the family so it's not quite that simple now is it. But, I began with my stuff and it is starting to catch on in the house. It's a process so I'm hopeful that one day, we will have only what we need and love and we will have more time and money to do what we love to do.

It is my hope with this blog that I will help to inspire others and spread the word about minimalism and living simply. If more of the world lived simply with only what they need and not the usual excess, I believe the world would be a much happier place. Please come back often or sign up for email updates. I'll try to regularly write about my experiences and try to give some good advice for those seeking to simplify their lives.

Chris.
